1872 Statement of French citizenship
After the Franco-Prussion war, France gave the territory of Alsace-Lorraine to Germany (Treaty
of Frankfurt May 10, 1871). The territory included most of Alsace and a quarter of Lorraine. In 1872, French citizens could submitted a statement retaining their French citizenship.
